Day 1Arrival at Leh

After arriving in Leh (11,500 ft), you’ll be greeted by the stunning sight of the high-altitude desert below as you cross the Great Himalayan Range. Upon arrival, a representative from Snow Lion Himalaya Travel will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel or guesthouse.

The rest of the day will be spent acclimatizing to the high altitude of Leh, allowing your body to adjust to the lower oxygen levels. It’s recommended to take things slow, avoid strenuous activity, and drink plenty of water to help with the acclimatization process. This time will give you the chance to relax and prepare for the exciting adventures ahead in the majestic landscapes of Ladakh.

Day 2Leh city tour

after a delicious breakfast, your exploration of Leh begins with visits to some of the region’s most significant cultural and historical landmarks:

Shey Palace: Once the summer retreat of Ladakh’s royal family, this palace offers beautiful views and a glimpse into the region’s royal history.

Rancho School (Druk White Lotus School): Famously known from the Bollywood movie “3 Idiots,” this progressive school is known for its unique architecture and educational approach.

Sindhu Darshan: Visit the Indus River, one of the longest rivers in Asia, which holds great historical and cultural significance, as it gave India its name.

Day 4Leh - Lamayuru

After breakfast and a detailed briefing, it’s time to embark on your motorbike journey toward Lamayuru (11,364 ft), a 125 km ride from Leh, home to a famous monastery. Along the way, you’ll make stops at some incredible sights:

Hall of Fame: A museum constructed by the Indian Army in honor of soldiers who defended India.

Gurdwara Pathar Sahib: A revered Sikh shrine built in memory of Guru Nanak Dev.

Magnetic Hill: A unique phenomenon where vehicles seem to defy gravity and roll uphill.

Sangam (Indus-Zanskar River Confluence): Witness the dramatic meeting of the two mighty rivers.

Lamayuru Moonland: Known for its surreal, moon-like landscape.

Day 5Lamayuru - Kargil

After preparing your gear and fixing the necessary accessories, you’ll kick-start your ride towards Kargil. The route today is scenic and smooth, but you’ll cross two high mountain passes:

Fotu La Pass (13,478 ft): The highest point on the Srinagar-Leh Highway, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Namik La Pass (12,139 ft): A serene and picturesque pass with stunning landscapes.

Along the way, you’ll pass through several beautiful villages:

Wakha Village: A charming village nestled in the mountains.

Mulbek: A place of historical and spiritual significance, where you’ll stop to see the 9-meter-high statue of Maitreya Buddha, also known as the Future Buddha. After paying your respects at this ancient site, you’ll continue your journey towards Kargil.

The ride will be an exhilarating experience, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Himalayas.

Day 6Kargil - Rangdum

After breakfast, we begin our ride towards Rangdum through the picturesque Suru Valley. This valley is famous for its twin peaks, Nun (7135 m) and Kun (7087 m), which dominate the skyline and offer mesmerizing views throughout the journey. The landscape shifts dramatically with each turn, revealing stunning scenery at every gear change.

As you travel through the valley, you’ll be immersed in breathtaking views of towering mountains, lush green meadows, and pristine rivers. The road winds through small villages, and the entire route offers an otherworldly experience, with each scene more captivating than the last.

Upon reaching Rangdum, you’ll visit the ancient Rangdum Monastery, a treasure trove of Buddhist art, culture, and spirituality. Set against a dramatic backdrop of rugged mountains, this remote monastery offers a glimpse into the rich history and traditions of the region.

The day will be filled with scenic beauty and a sense of adventure as you explore one of the most remote and captivating regions of Ladakh.

Day 7Rangdum - Padum

After breakfast, we set off from Rangdum towards Padum, passing through the scenic Pensi La at an elevation of 14,000 ft. As you ride through the remote Rangdum Village, the road begins to ascend towards Pensi La, the highest point on the route between Leh and Kargil. The views become more dramatic, with snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and serene lakes surrounding you. Wildlife enthusiasts will be thrilled by the frequent sightings of marmots basking in the sun.

The beauty of Zanskar unveils itself in full force as we descend from Pensi La. This stretch offers breathtaking views, and you’ll find yourself stopping frequently to capture the sheer grandeur of the landscape. The road to Padum is rugged and challenging, with dirt trails testing your riding skills, but the reward is the pristine beauty of the Zanskar region.

After approximately 180 km of riding on dirt roads, you’ll be greeted by the smooth tarmac on the outskirts of Padum. Padum is a quaint town with basic amenities such as hotels, restaurants, and internet cafés, offering a chance to unwind after the thrilling ride. The day is a perfect mix of adventure and immersion in the raw, untouched beauty of Zanskar.

Day 8Explore Zanskar

 

Today is dedicated to exploring the heart of Zanskar, delving into its unique lands, people, and rich culture. After breakfast, we set out on our ride towards Karsha Monastery, a significant religious site in the Zanskar region. The journey begins with a 9 km ride along a scenic link road, crossing an iron bridge over the Stod River. The route treats you to spectacular landscapes, with views of vibrant Gonpas, ancient forts, and towering multi-hued mountains.

Karsha Monastery, perched picturesquely on a steep mountainside above Karsha Village, is visible from a distance, creating a majestic sight against the backdrop of the rugged terrain. As we explore the monastery, you’ll experience the serene atmosphere, traditional Buddhist architecture, and panoramic views of the Zanskar Valley below.

After spending time at Karsha, we proceed further towards Bardan Gompa, a 17th-century Buddhist monastery belonging to the Dugpa-Kargyud sect. Standing atop a rocky crag, Bardan Gompa is located approximately 12 kilometers south of Padum. The route offers more stunning views of the region’s dramatic landscape, and the monastery itself, with its centuries-old relics and peaceful surroundings, provides a glimpse into the spiritual life of Zanskar.

The day is a blend of cultural immersion and awe-inspiring rides through one of the most remote and beautiful corners of the Himalayas.

Day 9Rangdum - Kargil

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we begin our return journey to Kargil, retracing the same scenic route through the stunning Zanskar Valley. As we ride through the serene valleys, the ever-changing landscapes continue to mesmerize with their beauty. We cross some sparkling mountain streams and pass by majestic glaciers that seem to glow under the morning sun.

The ride is a perfect mix of adventure and tranquility, offering a final opportunity to soak in the raw, untouched beauty of Zanskar. After crossing Pensi La Pass once again, we descend into the lower regions, where the terrain gradually shifts from rugged mountain passes to the more open landscapes of the Suru Valley.

As we approach Kargil, the familiar twin peaks of Nun and Kun greet us, marking the end of our journey through the wild and enchanting lands of Zanskar. By evening, we arrive in Kargil, ready to relax and reflect on the unforgettable experiences of the past few days.

Day 10Ullaytokpo to Leh Enroute Rafting

Kickstart the final lap of our tour, riding back towards Leh. The road conditions are excellent, with smooth and well-metalled paths making for an easy and enjoyable ride. On our way, we’ll visit the famous Basgo Castle and Monastery, a historical site known for its rich cultural significance and picturesque setting amidst the mountains.

As we approach Sangam, the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, we’ll park our bikes for an exhilarating rafting expedition. The adrenaline-pumping rafting session from Sangam to Chilling will offer a refreshing change after the tiring journey, taking you through the scenic Zanskar river surrounded by towering mountains and rugged terrain.

This adventure marks the perfect end to our thrilling motorbike tour, providing a mix of historical exploration and an adrenaline-filled experience. After the rafting, we’ll ride back to Leh to conclude the tour.

Day 11Kargil - Ulaytopo via Hamboting la

After a hearty breakfast, we depart from Kargil, embarking on an exciting journey towards the Aryans Valley via Hamboting La Pass. This route offers a unique experience as it takes us through the Batalik sector and Dha Bema, a region recently opened to tourists, allowing for rare exploration.

The scenic drive unfolds the hidden beauty of remote Ladakh, with panoramic views of dramatic landscapes and traditional villages. As we pass through the villages of Dharkon and Hanu, we get the opportunity to witness the fascinating culture of the Aryan people, believed to be descendants of Alexander the Great’s army. Their distinct features and preserved traditions provide a glimpse into a rare and ancient way of life.
