  • Yamunotri: Begin your journey at Yamunotri, the source of the sacred Yamuna River. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna and offers a serene spiritual atmosphere.
  • Gangotri: Visit the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Witness the holy Ganges river flowing from the Gangotri glacier, believed to cleanse sins.
  • Kedarnath: A challenging trek will lead you to Kedarnath, the sacred shrine of Lord Shiva, where the ancient temple stands amidst snow-capped mountains.
  • Badrinath: Conclude the yatra at Badrinath, the abode of Lord Vishnu, located between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges. The temple is a symbol of spiritual fulfillment and devotion.
  • Experience awe-inspiring views of towering snow-capped peaks, dense forests, rivers, and valleys throughout your journey, creating a serene and peaceful environment that enhances the spiritual experience.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Haridwar, Uttarakhand

Arrive in Haridwar, known as the “Gateway to the Gods,” is a sacred city located in the foothills of the Himalayas. It’s a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus and a vibrant cultural hub. Check into your accommodation. 

Har Ki Pauri: The main ghat of Haridwar, where the Ganges River flows from the mountains. Witness the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti, a daily evening ritual.

Mansa Devi Temple: Located on a hill overlooking the city, the Mansa Devi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi. Take a cable car or climb the stairs to reach the temple.

Chandi Devi Temple: Another important temple located on a hill, dedicated to Goddess Chandi Devi.

Bharat Mata Mandir: A unique temple dedicated to Mother India, featuring a 125-foot-tall statue of India.

Kushalnagar: A peaceful area near Haridwar, known for its ashrams and spiritual retreats.

Return to Har Ki Pauri by sunset for the mesmerising Ganga Aarti. Witness the priests performing rituals with lit lamps while thousands of devotees chant hymns, making it a magical spiritual experience.

Stay in Haridwar or proceed to Rishikesh (30 min drive).

Day 2Rishikesh – The Yoga Capital and Adventure Hub

Begin your day at Triveni Ghat, one of the most famous and sacred ghats in Rishikesh, perfect for a peaceful morning prayer and meditation.

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple: If time permits, you can visit this Shiva temple, located 30 km from Rishikesh, nestled in the hills, known for its mythological significance.

Visit the iconic Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula, two suspension bridges over the Ganga River. These bridges offer scenic views of the river and the surrounding hills. Explore the temples and ashrams nearby, like Parmarth Niketan and Geeta Bhawan.

Experience an adrenaline rush with white-water rafting on the Ganges (optional), starting from Shivpuri. It’s one of the best adventure activities in Rishikesh, offering a thrilling ride through rapids. If you seek more adventure, try bungee jumping at Mohan Chatti, just outside Rishikesh.

Conclude your trip with the soulful Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan. Unlike Haridwar, the aarti here is quieter and more intimate, performed by the ashram residents. You can stay overnight in Rishikesh or head back to Haridwar/Dehradun.

Day 3Rishikesh - Barkot (180km / 7hrs)

After breakfast, start your drive from Rishikesh to Barkot (approx. 180 km, 7-8 hours). The route takes you through lush green valleys, winding mountain roads, and the confluence of rivers, making it an enchanting journey.

If you have time, take a short detour and stop at Mussoorie, the Queen of Hills, for some scenic views and a quick refreshment. You can visit the famous Kempty Falls near Mussoorie if you’re passing through. Another scenic spot along the way is Dhanaulti, known for its tranquil atmosphere and forests.

Arrive at Barkot in the afternoon. After check-in at your hotel, take some time to relax and acclimatize to the higher altitude. If you’re up for it, take a short stroll along the Yamuna River or enjoy the mountain views around Barkot. Evening free for rest, preparation for the Yamunotri trek the next day. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Barkot.

Day 4Barkot to Yamunotri and Back

The journey from Barkot to Yamunotri is one of the most spiritually significant and breathtaking parts of the Char Dham Yatra. The day starts with a drive from Barkot to Janki Chatti, followed by a trek or pony ride to Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. After an early breakfast at your hotel in Barkot, start your journey to Janki Chatti (approx. 36 km, 1.5 hours). Janki Chatti is the base for the Yamunotri trek, and from here, the trek to the temple begins.

The trek from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri Temple is approximately 6 km, and you have options to complete it:

  • By Foot: The trek is scenic, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
  • By Pony or Doli: For those who cannot trek, pony or palanquin (doli) services are available for hire.

The path is lined with dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and the holy Yamuna River flowing nearby. Take breaks to admire the beauty and the serene atmosphere of the region. Upon reaching the Yamunotri Temple, offer your prayers to Goddess Yamuna, who is revered for purifying one’s sins. Don’t miss the sacred hot springs near the temple (Surya Kund). Pilgrims often cook rice in the boiling waters of Surya Kund as a holy offering (prasad). A rock pillar name Divya Shila situated near the temple, this is worshipped before entering the temple.

After completing the darshan, start your descent back to Janki Chatti. Depending on your pace, the trek back will take 2-3 hours. From Janki Chatti, drive back to Barkot and relax at your hotel after a spiritually enriching day. Overnight stay at your hotel in Barkot.

Day 5Barkot to Uttarkashi (82km / 4-5hrs)

Start your journey from Barkot after breakfast. The road will take you through scenic landscapes with views of the Himalayan mountains and valleys. On the way visit Gangnani Hot Springs (Optional Stop), located around 45 km from Barkot, it’s a small village famous for its hot water springs. Many pilgrims stop here for a holy dip before continuing their journey.

Arrive in Uttarkashi and check in to your pre-booked hotel. Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, it’s one of the main temples in Uttarkashi and holds great religious significance. Spend time in prayer and explore the temple complex.Next visit this famous temple known for the giant trident, symbolizing the power of Goddess Shakti.

Enjoy a walk by the Bhagirathi River, or relax at the hotel. You can also explore the local market for spiritual souvenirs. Visit Maneri Dam (optional), a beautiful dam site, around 15 km from Uttarkashi if time permits. Return to the hotel for dinner. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi, preparing for the next day’s journey towards Gangotri.

Day 6Uttarkashi to Gangotri and Back

This day combines spiritual experiences at Gangotri with stunning Himalayan scenery, offering both peace and awe-inspiring views throughout the day. Start early from Uttarkashi after a light breakfast. The drive takes you along the Bhagirathi River with stunning mountain views and charming villages. Arrive in Gangotri, one of the holiest places in the Char Dham Yatra, known as the origin of the sacred Ganges River (called Bhagirathi at its source).  Visit the Gangotri Dham dedicated to Goddess Ganga, located at an altitude of 3,100 meters. Participate in the morning aarti and offer prayers.

Explore nearby holy sites like Bhagirath Shila, A sacred stone where King Bhagirath meditated to bring the Ganga to earth. Pandava Gufa, A cave where the Pandavas are believed to have meditated during their exile. Have a packed or local lunch in Gangotri, enjoying the serene atmosphere and breathtaking scenery of the Himalayas.

Take a short trek (optional) to Surya Kund or visit the scenic spots around Gangotri, including the Bhagirathi River gorge and the lush green surroundings.

Begin your return drive to Uttarkashi. Enjoy the scenic drive back, with the option to stop at Harsil Valley for a short break. Harsil is known for its natural beauty, apple orchards, and views of snow-clad mountains. Reach Uttarkashi and relax after a long day. Overnight stay at your hotel in Uttarkashi, preparing for the next day’s journey.

 

Day 7Uttarkashi to Guptkashi (200 km / 8-9 hours)

tart your journey early after a hearty breakfast and drive to Guptakashi, the route takes you through picturesque landscapes, following the river valleys of Bhagirathi and Mandakini, You will pass through small towns and villages like Lambgaon, Chamba, and Tehri. Take a lunch break at a local dhaba or restaurant along the way, perhaps around Rudraprayag. Rudraprayag is one of the Panch Prayags, where the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers meet. It’s a spiritual and scenic spot to rest for a while.

Resume your drive towards Guptkashi, a sacred town situated on the way to Kedarnath. The Mandakini River will accompany you through this journey, offering awe-inspiring views of valleys and mountains. Arrive in Guptkashi, a holy town with deep spiritual significance linked to Lord Shiva. Check into your hotel or guesthouse and freshen up.

Visit the famous Vishwanath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also, explore Ardhnarishwar Temple, where Shiva is depicted as half-male and half-female, symbolizing the union of energy. Explore the local markets or take a peaceful evening stroll with views of the Kedarnath range. Enjoy dinner at the hotel and relax for the night, preparing for the next day’s trek towards Kedarnath.

Day 8Guptkashi to Kedarnath (30km / 1.5hrs)

Depart from Guptkashi at 4.30am and drive to Gaurokund, the base point for the Kedarnath trek. The trek from Gaurokund to Kedarnath is approximately 16 km and takes about 6-8 hours, depending on your pace or You can hire ponies or palanquins for a more comfortable journey, though it may require advance booking.

Enjoy the scenic views as you pass through lush green valleys, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking mountain landscapes. Stop for a packed lunch along the way, or you can find small stalls selling refreshments during the trek.

Arrive at Kedarnath, situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet). Check into your accommodation (if pre-booked) and rest for a bit. After resting, head to the Kedarnath Temple. Typically open from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM and then again from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. Participate in the evening aarti (prayer ceremony), a spiritual experience with chanting and the ringing of bells. Spend some time exploring the area around the temple. Take in the stunning views of the Kedarnath range and visit nearby attractions like Bhairav Temple or enjoy a peaceful evening by the river.

Return to your accommodation for dinner and rest for the night. Prepare for the next day’s activities or return journey.

Day 9Kedarnath to Pipalkoti (80km / 4-5hrs)

Wake up early to experience the serene morning atmosphere. Enjoy a light breakfast at your accommodation before heading out within 5.30amand begin your return journey from Kedarnath to Gaurokund, it will take 5-6 hrs (16km).

Arrive back at Gaurokund and take a moment to rest, then drive to Pipalkoti. Stop for lunch en route at a roadside dhaba or pre-packed meals. Resume your drive to Pipalkoti. Keep an eye out for stunning landscapes and picturesque villages. Arrive in Pipalkoti. Check into your hotel and take some time to relax.

Take a leisurely walk around Pipalkoti to explore the town. Visit local markets or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Have dinner at your hotel, savoring the local flavors of Uttarakhand. Relax and unwind at the hotel, preparing for the next day’s journey.

Day 10Pipalkoti to Badrinath (75km / 3-4hrs)

Wake up early to enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Have a hearty meal to prepare for the journey ahead. Check out from your hotel in Pipalkoti. Enjoy the scenic drive through the mountainous terrain with stunning views of the Himalayas. Arrive in Badrinath. Check into your hotel and freshen up.

Head to the famous Badrinath Temple. Attend the morning rituals and offer your prayers. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the Char Dhams. Enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant or your hotel, sampling local cuisine. After lunch, explore nearby attractions like Tapt Kund: A natural hot spring near the temple. Neelkanth Peak: Take photos of this iconic mountain and Brahma Kapal, A sacred spot for performing rituals for departed souls.

Spend some time shopping for local handicrafts or taking leisurely walks along the banks of the Alaknanda River. Attend the evening aarti at the temple if time permits. Return to your hotel for dinner, enjoying the peaceful ambiance of Badrinath. Rest and rejuvenate for the next day’s adventures.

Day 11Badrinath to Srinagar (185 km / 6-7 hours)

Wake up to the tranquil morning in Badrinath. Have a hearty breakfast at your hotel. If you wish, you can visit the Badrinath Temple for morning prayers or participate in the morning aarti for few hours. Check out from your accommodation and begin your journey to Srinagar within 9.30am.

Start your drive, enjoying the picturesque views along the route. The journey includes scenic views of the mountains, rivers, and charming villages. Stop for lunch at a suitable location en route, either at a local restaurant or pre-packed meals. Arrive in Srinagar. Check into your hotel and freshen up. Take some time to relax or explore nearby attractions.

Visit Shankaracharya Temple temple located on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the city. If time permits, you can visit the famous Mughal Gardens like Shalimar Bagh or Nishat Bagh.

Return to your hotel for dinner, enjoying local Kashmiri cuisine. Spend the evening at leisure. You might want to stroll around the local market or simply relax at the hotel. Retire for the night and rest after a day filled with travel and exploration.

Day 12Srinagar to Haridwar and departure (220 km / 7-8 hours)

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel. Enjoy traditional Kashmiri cuisine or a variety of continental options. Take in the scenic beauty as you descend from the mountains, with views of rivers, valleys, and villages.

Stop for a short break at a picturesque location, perhaps near Vishnu Prayag or a small roadside café. Stretch your legs and enjoy the surroundings. Take lunch at a local restaurant or dhaba along the way, savoring regional delicacies. Resume your drive to Haridwar. Look out for beautiful landscapes and perhaps a glimpse of the Ganges River as you approach Haridwar. 

Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to Jolly Grant Airport or the railway station for your onward journey, carrying unforgettable memories of your Uttarakhand adventure. Safe travels!
